Welcome, and thank you for visiting. These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are the agreement between you and C.G. Dixon ("I," "me," "my") that governs your use of the website cgdixon.com (the "Site"). Please read them carefully. They are written in plain language on purpose, but they are still a legally binding agreement. If you have any questions, email me at contact @ cgdixon.com

1. Agreement to These Terms

By visiting, browsing, or using this Site — including by joining my VIP Reader List or sending me a message — you agree to these Terms and to my Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Site. I may update these Terms from time to time as described in Section 13.

2. Who Can Use This Site

This Site is intended for adults. By using it, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you are old enough to form a binding agreement where you live and are using the Site with the involvement of a parent or guardian. This Site is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children (see the Privacy Policy for details).

3. About This Site — A Few Things to Know

  • This is an informational author website. I use it to share news about my books, my writing, and occasional updates for readers.
  • No sales happen here. You cannot buy anything directly on cgdixon.com. When you want a book, the "buy" buttons send you to third-party retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or another retailer, who handle the sale under their own terms.
  • There are no affiliate links. I do not earn a commission when you click a retailer link. I link to retailers simply so you can find my books.
  • Content is for your enjoyment and information. Book descriptions, excerpts, blog posts, and other content are provided for general reading and entertainment.

4. Intellectual Property — My Content Is Mine

Everything on this Site — including the text, book titles, book excerpts and sample chapters, cover art and images, blog posts, the "C.G. Dixon" name and any logos, and the overall look, feel, selection, and arrangement of the Site (together, the "Content") — is owned by me or my licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws. All rights are reserved except as expressly stated below.

You may, for your own personal, non-commercial use:

  • View and read the Content on the Site;
  • Share a normal link to a page on the Site; and
  • Quote a short, reasonable excerpt with clear attribution to C.G. Dixon and a link back, as permitted by applicable "fair use" or "fair dealing" law.

You may not, without my prior written permission:

  • Copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, or publicly display the Content, in whole or in substantial part;
  • Modify the Content or make derivative works from it (including fan-edited versions, translations, or adaptations offered publicly);
  • Use the Content for any commercial purpose;
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or attribution notice; or
  • Use any automated system — "robots," "bots," "spiders," "scrapers," or crawlers — to access, copy, monitor, harvest, or index the Content, except for legitimate search-engine indexing that respects the Site's robots instructions. (See Section 5 for AI and text-and-data-mining specifically.)

If you would like to use any Content beyond what is allowed above — for example, in a review, a school project, a translation, or a fan community — just ask. I'm often happy to say yes, but I'd like to be asked first.

5. No AI Training or Text-and-Data Mining

This section is important to me as an author. I expressly reserve all rights in the Content against text and data mining, web scraping, and use for artificial-intelligence purposes.

You may not — and you may not authorize, enable, or permit any third party to — use, reproduce, or process any Content on this Site for the purpose of:

  • Developing, training, fine-tuning, or validating any artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system or model, including generative-AI systems that produce text, images, or audio;
  • Text or data mining, or any automated analytical technique aimed at analyzing text and data to generate patterns, trends, correlations, or datasets; or
  • Building, populating, or contributing to any dataset, corpus, or index intended for any of the above.

This is an express reservation of rights for the purposes of Article 4(3) of the EU Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market (2019/790), the corresponding UK copyright rules, and any similar law anywhere in the world. It applies in addition to — and does not limit — the restrictions in Section 4. No use of the Content for AI training or text-and-data mining is permitted unless I have given my specific, express, written permission in advance. Ignoring this reservation is a breach of these Terms and may infringe my copyright and other rights.

6. Acceptable Use

When you use this Site, you agree that you will not:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, or abusive purpose;
  • Try to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its server, or any connected system, or interfere with its normal operation (for example, by introducing malware, launching a denial-of-service attack, or probing for vulnerabilities);
  • Scrape, harvest, or collect information about other users, or attempt to access or misuse my VIP Reader List or any personal data;
  • Impersonate me or any other person, or misrepresent your affiliation with me;
  • Use the Site in any way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair it, or that violates these Terms or any applicable law.

7. The VIP Reader List

You can join my VIP Reader List to hear about new releases and projects. Signing up is voluntary, and the emails I send are governed by my Privacy Policy. I don't promise any particular email schedule — I send updates when I have news worth sharing. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email, or by contacting me at contact @ cgdixon.com. By subscribing, you confirm that the email address you provide is yours and that you're happy to receive these updates.

8. Messages and Anything You Send Me

If you contact me — through a form, by email, or otherwise — please don't send confidential, sensitive, or proprietary information, and please don't send unpublished manuscripts, story ideas, or other creative work that you expect me to keep confidential or pay for. Any feedback, comments, or suggestions you choose to send me are given voluntarily, and you agree that I may use them without any obligation or compensation to you. (I promise I'm not fishing for your ideas — this is standard wording that protects both of us if our thoughts happen to overlap.)

9. Links to Other Websites

This Site contains links to third-party websites — including retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and possibly social media or other sites. I provide these links for your convenience only. I don't control those sites, I'm not responsible for their content, products, or practices, and including a link is not an endorsement. Once you leave cgdixon.com, these Terms no longer apply, and the other site's own terms and privacy policy take over. Please review them before using those sites or providing any information.

10. Disclaimers

The Site and its Content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. While I try to keep the Site accurate and up to date, I don't promise that it will always be correct, complete, current, secure, or free from errors or interruptions. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The Content is for general information and entertainment only and is not professional advice of any kind. You use the Site at your own discretion and risk.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Site. Because this Site is provided free of charge and sells nothing, my total liability to you for any claim relating to the Site or these Terms will not exceed zero US dollars (US $0.00) or the equivalent in your local currency.

Nothing you can't exclude by law is excluded. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded — including, where they apply to you, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any statutory rights you have as a consumer (for example, under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 or equivalent EU consumer-protection law). If you are a consumer, you keep all the legal rights your local law gives you, and nothing here takes those away.

12. Indemnification

If your misuse of the Site or your breach of these Terms causes a third-party claim against me, you agree to reasonably indemnify and hold me harmless from that claim, including reasonable legal costs, to the extent the law allows. This does not apply to anything caused by my own fault, and it does not reduce any consumer rights you can't waive.

13. Changes to the Site and to These Terms

I may update, change, pause, or remove parts of the Site (or the whole Site) at any time, and I may revise these Terms from time to time. When I do, I'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top. If the changes are significant, I'll try to make that clear. By continuing to use the Site after changes are posted, you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree with a change, please stop using the Site.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be handled by the courts located there. However, if you are a consumer living in the EU, the UK, or another place with mandatory local protections, this does not deprive you of the protection of the laws of your home country, and you may also be able to bring proceedings there.

15. General Terms

  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in full effect, and the unenforceable part will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary.
  • No waiver. If I don't enforce a part of these Terms right away, that doesn't mean I give up the right to enforce it later.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with my Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and me about your use of the Site, and they replace any earlier understandings on that subject.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms to anyone else. I may transfer mine — for example, if my website or publishing arrangements change — without affecting your rights.
